| Vinificatie | The 2004 season was one where we had a perfect set. This is unusual in a cool climate like Marlborough, and it resulted in a very even crop with bunches having high numbers of berries. It resulted in larger than normal crops but still a good flesh to skin ratio in the grapes. Produced in our specialised Pinot Noir Winery at Nautilus Estate which incorporates principles of minimal handling and gravity flow, this wine is a carefully selected blend from six vineyard sites. To make this wine, fruit from Pinot Noir clones AM10/5, 114, 115, 5, 667 and 777 was hand harvested and de-stemmed without crushing to allow a portion of whole berries in the ferment. The wines were fermented in open top fermenters after a 6-8 day cold soak. Careful cap management, using our pneumatic punch down device, has resulted in extraction on only the soft ripe tannins. After pressing the wine was racked directly to a mixture of new and older French oak Barriques, where it remained undisturbed until filtration and bottling in March 2005. Wijn: Nautilus – Pinot Noir 2004 – Nieuw Zeeland
Dat hij op een mineralige grond verbouwd wordt, is zo klaar als een klontje. Ik vond hier echt de geur van steenslijperij in terug. Een prachtwijn, al weet ik niet of hij voldoende structuur heeft om te ouderen.

Heb ik dit al eerder geproefd?
Mooie tranende wijn die na een tijdje een versmelting geeft van gedroogd fruit en bloemen.
Er is nog iets dat ik niet thuis kan brengen, (het wordt ook al later) Stevige, frisse zuren…
geen slecht wijntje hoewel ik niet van pinot noir hou. Ik doe een gokje op Nieuw Zeeland
