Hahn Estate – Pinot Noir 2005 – USA

Productie Herkomst USA / California / Monterey
Klimaat The Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, is separated from the valley by an escarpment in places only six feet in height, yet possessing utterly different flavor characteristics. It is windy and cold on the bench and by the fog off Monterey Bay. Approved in 1991 as a unique AVA, the vineyards here are planted on the southeast facing terraces of the SL mountain range, overlooking the Salinas River Valley. The vines elevated locations take full advantage of the morning sunshine before the afternoon maritime breezes cool the vineyards.
Terroir Ancient, glacial alluvial soils Smith and Hook Vineyards / Santa Lucia Highlands was once a cattle ranch. The gently sloping hills of this portion of the SLH allow for excellent drainage. The uneven terrain of the terrace has rewarded a smaller scale, more labor intensive approach here. 95% van de druiven komen van de drie Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot wijngaarden: Lone Oak, Doctors en Hook. De druivenstokken staan op een hoogte van 500 tot 700 meter.
  Druivenrassen 100% Pinot Noir
Vinificatie Winemaking is traditional and aging is carried out in new and neutral French oak for 10 months. The fruit for this wine came from the Santa Lucia Highlands.

Opmerkingen   Hahn encourages beetles, lady bugs and lace wings to assist in the control of mealy bugs, leaf hoppers and aphids. Hahn uses Stylet Oil instead of sulfur when possible which controls mildew and suppresses mites. Hahn uses cover crops including legumes which mulches into nitrogen fixing for the soil.

Ik vond dit een zeer gesloten wijn. Na een tijdje wat lactisch, veel alcohol.
In de mond nogal zoet maar toch wel aangenaam.
Zou dit een Duitser kunnen zijn?
